Sport Clips: Some Salons Just "Get It"

"Niche Marketing Is Your Key To Riches"

Getting a killer name to brand your service can really set your company apart from your competition. The following idea is so unique and yet so simple anyone could have thought of it. But the critical factor here is that someone did... and took the ball and ran with it.

This comes to us from Bossier City, LA.

At the Bossier City Sport Clips, they may just have solved the age old question for men — how do I get a haircut and massage and still watch the last quarter of the all-important game? Sport Clips is a national franchise and the "official hair cutters of the Texas Rangers" (and a few other sports outlets).

Founded in 1995 by franchise veteran Gordon Logan and headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sport Clips is a sports-themed hair care place for men and boys with nearly 350 stores in 28 states. In Bossier City, it's off Airline Drive (in Shreveport, there's one in University Place).Although, hair stylist Nikki Lott said, the cutters still cut women's hair, Sport Clips is very much a new take on an old theme: the corner barbershop.

Except this shop has extras like plasma screen TVs and facials and sports — all kinds, all day long.Samantha Barnes, an assistant manager with the Bossier City store, said she's never seen anything like it."We just opened three weeks ago and we've been busy ever since," Barnes said.Inside the shop, the stylists wear referee uniforms.

There also are lockers with televisions built inside of them that broadcast football, baseball and even NASCAR throughout the day."Guys like to sit and watch the sports events while they get a haircut," Lott said. But haircuts are not all these metrosexuals are getting.

She said both area Sport Clips give back and neck massages, scalp massages and even facials — all at comparably affordable prices. For children under age 10, a haircut runs $10. For men, the entire works including a day of sports, back rubs and shaves can run $20.

For Hayden Harrison, 10, of Bossier City, it's the back and scalp rubs that make the experience worthwhile. For Kirk Thomas, 12, who likes his hair spiked, it's the televisions and steamed towels."Just the word sports in the name made us have to stop," said Michelle Thomas.

The concept seems to be working for a lot of men."I just cut a guy's hair who was in here to get a haircut on his way to play basketball at Loyola University," Barnes said.To heighten its image Sport Clips has partnered with a variety of top names and organizations in the sports world.

In addition to its partnership with the Texas Rangers, Sport Clips is also the official haircutters of the San Antonio Spurs.Earlier this year, the company tapped into auto racing as well, sponsoring Paul Tracy's No. 34 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series.

As I write this there is another service very similar to this for the cigar - martini mindset that works very similar. The guys get a massage and get to get pampered by beautiful women in metro Detroit.

And yes.... these services are offered to the consumer at a significantly higher price.

Hairy Scary

The Do's And Don'ts of Do-It-Yourself Dye Jobs

We asked celebrity colorists Joel Warren and Frank Friscioni, and women who color their hair regularly to share their tips and tricks for making an at-home dye job look every bit as chic as a professional one. Here's what they had to say and what our women recommend.

When you're choosing a color ...DO talk to a professional at a salon to get advice on which shades work best for you, says Joel Warren, a colorist and co-owner of the Warren-Tricomi salon in New York City. "If you've never colored your hair before, a colorist will be able to tell you what'll work best with your skin tone and what the formula is," says Warren. "It's worth the investment because it means you've got a better shot of finding a similar shade at the drugstore."
AOL Style Blog

When you color at home you run the risk of seriously ruining your look. This can be a very risky thing if you are novice or are in a hurry or just plain.... don't know what your doing. In either case it is better to color your hair with someone who has a little experience or leave it all to the experts. This is entirely up to you.....

No matter what you decide always use a color safe shampoo. And if you can you should wait for at least one day before you wash your hair.

A KISS OF HOLIDAY EXCITEMENT

OPI Lip Color

This new OPI lip colour has a brand new look and a new formula for silky, long wearing color! This is very unique and they now come in a fashionable square container with a clear window that exposes the product. Your customers will want to grab them as soon as they lay eyes on it. The giant close up of the lips on the display is a dead givewaway to the quality of this product and what its used for. With the added benefit of having the OPI brand you can be rest assured this product will move quickly.

That and the fact that this product line is completely brilliant.

Here are the colors…….

Music Hall Curtain Call
Star-ring the Rockettes
Red Dazzle

The larger packages do come with lip testers for the curious.

MUSIC HALL MINIS
The minis are an interesting collection. They are what they are—a MINIATURE version of the great OPI products. The size is 3.75 – 1/8 Fl Oz.

GLITZ AND GLAM
These are duo packages of some pretty great product. They are packaged with just the perfect combination of colors.

I Get A Kick Out Of Gold
Red Dazzle

You get a FREE bracelet from OPI with each order.

Star-ring The Rockettes
Merry Crimson

And the last duo is…..

Talk Of The Town Brown
Legs Celebrate

SPOTLIGHT SWEETIES
This package pairs up the nail colour with the lip color and sells them together as a duo.
Makes sense…. And now the lip colour can compliment the nail color for a perfect match. This is great for another reason. It allows the consumer to try the lip colour that they may not have actually considered and vice versa.

You get one and one, that is, one lip colour and its complimentary nail color of the same name. And here are the colours…..

Music Hall Curtain Call
Star-ring the Rockettes
Red Dazzle

AVOJUICE – HOLIDAY JUICIES
OPI Avojuice is back with some very fun and colorful products. You gotta check these out to believe it. I got a bit of a laugh over the brilliant names, concept and creation of the following products….

Avojuice Candy Cane Juicie
Avojuice Gingerbread Juicie

And of course these come in two different sizes. 30 mL, and in handy 6.6 mL.
You can also get the new 60 pc. Bucket. And these come complete with the testers.
